Jenkins to leave Crows for new AFL home

-

JOSH Jenkins is set to depart Adelaide after the Crows and the key forward agreed to explore a move in the AFL trade period.

Jenkins, 31 in February, fell out of favour this year and the Crows yesterday said they would work with him to secure a trade.

“After recent conversations it became clear that it is in the best interests of both parties that Josh looks to reinvigorate his career at another club,” Crows list and strategy manager Justin Reid said.

While Jenkins could be a short-term option to help Tom Hawkins, the Geelong Advertiser understands the Cats are yet to make an approach.

Contracted to the end of 2021, Jenkins confirmed there was mutual agreement for a move. He said he was prepared to take a pay cut to join the right club.

“I am contracted to the Crows, I’m more than willing to continue playing for them if that’s what eventuates over the next six to eight weeks,” Jenkins said at the AFL Trade Radio launch.

“But I think it’s mutually beneficial for both of us — the Crows are looking to move in a different direction and I still feel like I’ve got more than adequate footy at the level. So that’s where we’re at.”

Jenkins believed the Crows would be trending towards youth after missing the finals in the past two seasons and he likely didn’t fit in the picture.

“We’ve seen us as a club probably don’t end up where we thought we would,” he added.

“We played in a grand final (2017) and I was a part of that. And that was a great experience, but it hasn’t gone the way we’d like since.”
