JUNIOR triathlon action will take over Geelong this weekend.

Local kids are gearing up to swim, ride and run at the Geelong Kids Triathlon, which makes its debut appearance at the Festival of Sport on Sunday.

More than 150 kids, aged 7-15, will tackle the Kardinia Park course.

Local parent and triathlete, Paul Cations, is looking forward to seeing his two sons Sam, 11, and Josh, 8, continue to pursue their passion for triathlon in the Geelong-based event.

“It’s awesome for Geelong, it’s awesome for triathlon,” Cations said.

“We love the challenge (of triathlon).

“The people involved are excellent and we just love being part of the scene and staying fit and active.”

Cations said he first got involved with triathlon when his eldest son wanted to give it a go.

The family has not looked back, now training with local triathlon club Geelong Performance Coaching.

“It was actually my eldest who got me involved. He wanted to try (a triathlon) and thought I should too,” Cations said. With the swim taking place in a pool at the Kardinia Park Aquatic Centre and the ride and run on a closed road circuit, organisers say the Geelong Kids Triathlon provides a perfect environment for kids to try triathlon for the first time, as well as being a comfortable spectator venue. 9am) Sunday, October 6 From 7:45am (finish by Kardinia Park Aquatic Centre, 25 Park Cres, South Geelong VIC 15-$25 www.triathlonvictoria.org.au
