Taylor keen to play on

- JOSH BARNES

VETERAN Cats defender Harry Taylor is leaning towards playing on in 2020.

The Geelong Advertiser understands Taylor is more likely than not to wear the blue-andwhite hoops for a 13th season and add to his 261-game tally.

No official decision has been made by the 33-year-old and the Cats are still waiting to hear confirmation of his intentions.

His agent Paul Connors told AFL Trade Radio last week that Geelong was happy for the defender to make his own call.

The Cats are likely to bolster their midfield during the trade period after St Kilda coach Brett Ratten said his club wouldn’t stand in the way if midfielder Jack Steven requested a trade to Geelong.

Steven, 29, is contracted to the Saints but a deal is expected to get done for a draft pick.

“For Jack to be in the best space he can be, if that means he has to move to Geelong, I think we’ll try and make that happen,” Ratten said on SEN.

“If he wants to stay at St Kilda and that’s the best space for him we’ll do that as well.

“He’s 29, he’s got the rest of his life to live and if we can make the last part of his footy career as enjoyable as possible I think that’s something we’d do.”

List manager Stephen Wells confirmed last week that Geelong had met with Steven this year.

The dashing midfielder from Lorne is yet to make an official trade request.

Meanwhile, out of contract pair Lachie Henderson and Zac Smith are no closer to knowing their fates with the Cats.

Both met with the club last week and despite speculation Smith could move to Essendon or Gold Coast, no call has been made on their future.
