A WOMAN and child were flown to hospital after a horrifying crash where a highend sports car incinerated on Saturday.

The multi-vehicle crash happened at Maude on Saturday and left a young girl with serious burns.

An Audi — believed to be the $300,000 R8 model — was travelling in a convoy with a Lamborghini and Ferrari just before 1pm.

It is believed the cars made contact while overtaking a four-wheel-drive, causing the Audi driver to lose control.

It then crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

The crash happened good driving conditions.

The two people in the Audi were a primary school-age girl and the driver, a woman believed to be in her 40s.

The woman was flown to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition with burns to her chest. The young girl was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital with serious burns to her face and chest as well as fractures to her arms.

She remained in hospital in a stable condition yesterday afternoon.

The cars collided near the intersection of Steiglitz and in Maude-She Oaks roads. No one else was seriously injured and the other drivers stopped at the scene.

Police are investigating the collision and have urged any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.

Meanwhile, an elderly man was taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash in Grovedale earlier on Saturday.

Paramedics were called to the Marshalltown Rd scene at 11am. A man, believed to be aged in his 70s, was taken to Geelong hospital with a shoulder injury.
