Clippers win spoils Warriors’ party

-

THE Los Angeles Clippers scored the first 14 points in the regular-season history of the Golden State Warriors’ new NBA home to launch a frontrunning 141-122 romp yesterday.

Lou Williams had 22 points to lead five Clippers with 16 or more as the visitors built upon a season-opening victory over the Los Angeles Lakers with a blowout win. The Warriors’ Stephen Curry was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points.

Playing a regular-season game in San Francisco for the first time since 1971, the Warriors watched as Clippers centre Ivica Zubac scored the first five points in Chase Center regular-season history and Patrick Patterson added a pair of 3-pointers in the game-opening, 14-0 flurry.

Warriors newcomer D’Angelo Russell ended his team’s season-opening drought with a jumper 3:37 into the game, but Golden State never caught up.

The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Houston Rockets in their NBA season opener, while Trae Young inspired the

Atlanta Hawks to victory against the Detroit Pistons.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 30 points before fouling out and his supporting cast held on to lead the Bucks to a 117-111 victory over the Rockets. Antetokounmpo recorded his 15th career triple-double, and ended the match with the third most points in a season opening triple-double in NBA history.

One night after the Pistons made a surprise season-opening win on the road, the Atlanta Hawks did the same in Detroit. Young scored 25 of his game-high 38 points in the first half and added nine assists and seven rebounds to lead the Hawks to a 117-100 victory. He went 11 of 21 from the floor, including 6 of 10 from 3-point range.
