‘Knockabout’ bloke made everyone laugh

- BRIANNA TRAVERS

THE victim of a fatal Balliang East smash is being remembered by grieving loved ones as a “typical Aussie knockabout” who was a “friend to many.”

Aaron Doughty, 25, was one of two people who died in a three-car crash on Bacchus Marsh-Geelong Rd in Balliang East, west of Werribee.

Mr Doughty’s toddler son Mason was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries but is on the road to recovery in a stable condition.

Friends have paid tribute to the young father saying he died in “tragic circumstances” in his Renault hatchback on Sunday about 1pm.

“Aaron Doughty was your typical Aussie knockabout young man who was a proud father, loved son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend to many,” GoFundMe organiser Hayden Scholes said.

“He loved a good time with his mates but more importantly cherished his son and time with his family.

“You were sure to get a laugh when Aaron was around and if it wasn’t at his expense it would be at yours, with his witty one liners to keep you speechless.”

A fundraising campaign for

Mr Doughty’s funeral has raised more than $15,000.

A 61-year-old woman from Clifton Springs, who was travelling in a Honda wagon, also died in the collision.

The double fatality comes as the state government urged VicRoads to fast-track $45 million of planned safety works in July 2017 to fix the deadly road.

The push came after the notorious road claimed 10 lives between 2012 and 2017. The works included wire rope barriers and overtaking lanes which have not been completed yet.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene.
