RUNNERS TO PUT ON DAZZLING DISPLA Y
HUNDREDS of people in fluorescent tutus, leotards and wigs will dash along the Surf Coast foreshore on Saturday for the annual Afterglow Trail Run.
The after-dark run has a “loud and proud” 1980s theme, with runners encouraged to wear their brightest and most fun sporting outfits while they sweat it out.
Runners will even have entertainment on course to keep them energised, with a saxophonist, fire twirlers and live music.
A DJ spinning ’ 70s and ’ 80s retro tunes will welcome participants over the finish line.
Race organiser Chris Ord said 700 people had registered for the event, which was a record since the event started in 2014.
“It’s the same course as usual, we tend to have a DJ at the end every year and discos at different stations,” Mr Ord said.
“The one new thing is we have the Body Positive Stomp, which is a 5km non-competitive inclusive run focusing on positive body image.
“It’s not about size and shape, but to help people feel comfortable to join in without any intimidation.”
Mr Ord said about 50 people had signed up for the new body positive event.
The 21km run stats at Point Addis at 6.45pm and ends at Torquay. The 13km event starts from the Bells Beach carpark and the 5km event starts and finishes at the Salty Dog.
All runners must wear a headtorch and have until 11pm to complete the tricky course.
Registration is still open on the Afterglow website and participants can sign up on the day.
