Lara man, 34, dies after being shot in face

HOMICIDE detectives will take charge of an investigat­ion following the death of a man who was shot at a Lara property.

It is understood the 34year-old was shot in the face about 6pm on Wednesday. He was flown to The Alfred hospital for treatment but died yesterday afternoon.

Police spent several hours yesterday scouring the Bacchus Marsh Rd property where the shooting happened.

Uniformed police and detectives spent several hours yesterday scouring the Bacchus Marsh Rd property where the shooting happened.

Detectives seized jetskis and could be seen leaving the property with evidence bags.

The white weatherboa­rd clad and brick home, set back from the highway, was guarded by two uniformed officers throughout the day.

A badly damaged dark coloured hatchback, propped up by bricks, could be seen outside the property boundary.

It was surrounded by police tape.

Police spokeswoma­n Leading Senior Constable Natalie Dean said two women, both aged 29 from Lara and Newtown, were assisting police with their inquiries and have since been released.

A 35-year-old man from Bell Park was arrested at the scene for unrelated matters.

He has also been released without charge.

It is understood officers spent several hours speaking to neighbours on Wednesday to try to determine the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the shooting.

Sen-Constable Dean said Homicide Squad detectives would take charge of the investigat­ion and would be assisted by regional police and members of the Armed Crime Squad.

“The exact circumstan­ces surroundin­g the shooting are still to be determined and the investigat­ion is ongoing,” she said.
