- OLIVIA SHYING REPORT: P6

THE family of a man found dead outside a Belmont toilet block on Saturday has made a desperate plea for authorities to find those responsible for his death.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of Billy Guest, 28, as family and friends come to terms with the loss.

“I really loved him and can’t believe someone would do this to him,” his halfsister told the Addy yesterday.

THE family of a man found dead outside a Belmont toilet block has made a desperate plea for authorities to find those responsible for his death.

Billy Guest, 28, died in mysterious circumstances sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

His body was found slumped on the ground at a Belmont toilet block about 7.30am on Saturday.

Police quickly established a crime scene a short distance from the popular Barwon Valley children’s playground.

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating, but have remained tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

Mr Guest’s half-sister EllieMae Fearey told the Geelong Advertiser her brother was “goofy”, generous and loving, and was trying to transform his life.

Ms Fearey, who lives in Western Australia, acknowledged her brother had a chequered past, but said he had been focused on trying to be a good dad to his young son and recently started working again.

“Everybody loved him,” Ms Fearey said. “I really loved him and can’t believe someone would do this to him.”

Mr Guest was jailed in 2017 for burglary offences.

But Ms Fearey said she had visited her brother in prison and had noticed a change in him since his release.

She said she would miss his “goofy smile and his goofy laugh”. “He’s always laughing, he was a bubble of good energy, and I just loved him,” she said.

“He wanted to be a good dad, he had started working, and he was doing better.”

Ms Fearey said the death of her brother days out from Christmas would forever mar the festive season for her family.

She said she’d been told her brother was stabbed, and was now desperate for police to track down those responsible for his death.

Ex-partner Shannon Herdy described Mr Guest as her “best mate” and said he was “truly one of a kind”. “He was beautifully overprotective of people he cared about, and he’d give them his last cent,” she said.

She said Mr Guest was a loving dad to his young son, who he doted on and cared for.

“Like all of us, Billy has made mistakes in his life, and he didn’t want (his son) to follow in his footsteps. He wanted him to be a good boy,” Ms Herdy said.

Detectives have not provided any additional details on the man’s death since his body was discovered.

At the time, Victoria Police Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said the investigation was ongoing.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the suspicious death are still being established and a crime scene has been set up,” she said.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
