NINJA ON THE GO

- JOSH BARNES

A FULL stomach and a love of pushing his limits has teenager Angus Hose on the verge of leading the way in a growing sport.

The 15-year-old sticks to a strict but vast diet and trains at South Geelong’s Geelong Boxing and Obstacle Training (GBOT) six times a week as he set his sights on international ultimate ninja competition.

The Grovedale boy is good friends with the owner at GBOT and decided to give the high-intensity gym a try and fell in love with the acrobatic sport.

Such is the growing expertise of the youngster, Angus now teaches classes at the gym after his workouts.

“It’s fun, it’s rewarding and I like the challenges and to keep pushing myself all the time,” he said.

“I love coaching the kids. It’s very rewarding and doesn’t feel like a job when I do it — it’s pretty easy.”

A talented sportsman, the St Ignatius College student also visits a regular gym and runs.

Thanks to a deep diet, Angus finished third in the national ultimate ninja competition in October and qualified for the world titles in Las Vegas in August.

Angus eats oats for breakfast, two sandwiches for lunch and ploughs through up to 12 Weet-Bix for dessert.

He said he began to see good results after dropping junk food and decided to stick to his healthy eating as he continued to feel good.

“I just perform so much better,” he said.

“I try and stay away from junk food, I’ll have a treat maybe twice a month.

“I started eating healthy maybe 2½ years ago and once you start eating healthy you don’t crave the bad stuff.”
