Second Chance at Falls

The 27th annual Falls Festival returns to Lorne with another stellar line-up. MICHAELA GLASS caught up with some of the big-name acts.

THE dynamic duo that is Milky Chance is bringing its signature blend of electronics and acoustics all the way from Germany to Lorne.

Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch make up one of the most exciting international acts on the Falls Festival lineup this year.

They met on the first day of their Advanced Music Course in 11th grade and jelled creatively from the get-go.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Rehbein describes their music as something you can both dance and relax to.

“All of the songs have that mixture of melancholy and uplifting positive musical vibes, so you can get lost in both of those worlds,” he said.

Since launching as a band seven years ago, Milky Chance has released three albums and performed in Australia three times. This will be Rehbein and Dausch’s second time at Falls and they are excited to be coming back.

“Falls is the first memory we have of touring in Australia so that makes it very special for us,” Rehbein said.

The band recently took a year off to release a third studio album, Mind on the Moon, and Falls will be its first live show since last October. “I think that makes it even more exciting for us, because it kicks off our whole tour,” Rehbein said.

While here, Rehbein said they hope to get among the crowd and experience Falls from a festival-goer’s perspective.

“We jump from stage to stage and spontaneously check out who’s playing and who’s enjoying it,” he said.

Those who have seen Milky Chance before can expect a very different show this time around.

The boys have an album of new songs and have worked hard to develop their live set.

“We have a new light show and lots of new instruments,” Rehbein said.

“There’s also a lot more

movement than before,”

In particular, fans should look forward to seeing them perform their recent single

Fado.

“For the live show, we’ve added some breakdown parts and instrumental jamming parts … and that’s pretty fun to play live,” Rehbein said.

Milky Chance is playing on the Valley Stage from 9.30pm on December 30.
