HAMILTON HAS SOLUTION FOR OUR POOL DILEMMA
INSTEAD of umming and aahing over the length of a swimming pool — which everybody agrees we need — for the massively and rapidly increasing population of Torquay, may I suggest Surf Coast Shire’s Chris Pike fill a ratepayer-funded vehicle with two to three colleagues or even councillors and go for a drive to Hamilton.
It is a town in the Western District, with a population of about 3000, with 50m, 25m and toddler learn-to-swim pools and a gymnasium and a creche and an outdoor area.
Something similar will work for Torquay, although all the conveniently located sites have been wasted on development while successive councils scratch their heads.
A combined 50m and 25m pool such as Hamilton’s will allow our council to satisfy both major political parties’ desire to give significant amounts to the project.
Yet another feasibility study or survey regarding an aquatic centre will be a total waste of funds which will be much better spent on the construction of the swimming centre.

HEALTH SYSTEM DESERVES PRAISE FOR TREATMENT
AS disappointing it was that our public health system had a few issues, I have nothing but praise to offer.
After three sets of surgery this year, including life-threatening admittance into emergency, I was faced with exceptional treatment, top class surgery and loving care.
Unfortunately, it seems some don’t know how fortunate we are to live in a country with such amazing public health and welfare services.

MORRISON WORKING HARD TO DIVIDE THE COUNTRY
LIKE many Australians, not the quiet ones, I was astounded by the lack of judgment shown by Scott Morrison in taking an overseas holiday while the country was on fire.
His supporters argue he has been working hard for months, and deserves a break. At this moment, I am scratching my head vigorously, trying to think of any meaningful Morrison achievement. So far, all he has managed to do is reverse the medevac Bill, thus bringing more misery and anxiety to helpless refugees. Disability and Newstart recipients don’t appear to be celebrating anything.
Some retirees have benefited, by hanging on to their franking credit cash. Thanks to ScoMo, they don’t have to miss out on their annual, taxpayer-funded overseas holiday.
Religious organisations have been given the green light, and Morrison’s blessing, to discriminate against gay couples and women needing certain medical procedures.
Scott Morrison’s answer to the climate emergency is that he’s not the sort of person who panics.
That’s just great, Scott. Let’s leave all the panic and devastation to future generations.
