Queen gives her blessing to Megxit’s royal ‘divorce’

- STEPHEN DRILL

THE heartbroken Queen will graciously let Prince Harry and Meghan Markle go their own way, throwing aside protocol to save her family.

The Queen, 93, has given her grandson and his wife her blessing to start a new life in Canada with their baby Archie.

“Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” she said after sealing the “divorce” deal with princes Charles, William and Harry.

“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.

“Although we would have preferred them to remain fulltime working members of the royal family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

But mending fences between brothers William, 37, and Harry, 35, may not be so simple, amid reports of a furious spat before a polo game attended by their wives and children.

The Queen did not refer to Harry and Meghan as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sparking debate as to whether she may remove their titles.

There were few details of how they would become parttime royals, with security and finances still unclear.

“Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives,” the Queen said.

“It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

“These are complex matters for my family to resolve … but I have asked for final decisions … in the coming days.”
