Top tips for back-to-school success

THE START OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR IS EDGING CLOSER AND WITH THAT COMES UNIFORMS AND AN ALL NEW BOOKLIST

-

IT’S almost back to school time again and that means shopping for all the education essentials.

Ease the back to school rush by being smart and prepared when shopping.

Follow the tips below for a smooth start to the 2020 school year.

UNIFORMS

Check that uniform list and check it twice. Buying school uniforms is best done in the weeks before school starts to avoid the mad last-minute rush. If your child is starting prep or a new school and you’re trying to work your way through the extensive uniform list fret not, there are usually some items that are optional. Some schools offer a secondhand uniform shop where you might be able to snap up a bargain. For younger children, it is important to factor in any potential growth spurts throughout the year and it is best to buy the uniform one to two sizes too big.

STATIONERY

Buying stationery for the school year can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Make sure you go through your child’s current inventory to ensure you aren’t doubling up when last year’s is still in good condition. It is worth bearing in mind that if your child does art classes or graphics they may need specific art supplies and it is best to refer to the booklist. Shopping during stationery supplier’s back-to-school sales is a great way to save money.

SHOES

School shoes are one of the most vital parts of your child’s uniform and it’s important to get the right fit. Too small or too big and the shoes will hurt your child’s feet. Going to an experienced school shoe retailer is the best way to ensure your child will get the most out of their shoes. It’s also worth buying black shoe polish to bring back the shine to the shoes when they start looking a little worn. Buying a new pair of sneakers is also a good option at the start of the school year and will come in handy for school sport classes.

TECHNOLOGY

Schools are increasingly integrating technology into the curriculum, be it laptops, iPads or scientific calculators. It is important to check your child’s booklist to ensure you are buying the correct version of the technology. If you are buying a laptop or iPad for your child to study at home, shop around to get the best deal. Most retailers, such as Harvey Norman, will have back-to-school sales on technology in the lead-up to your child’s return to school, which is the ideal time to buy. Headphones, USBs and laptop or iPad covers can be easily forgotten in the shopping rush, but are important.
