WHO’S OUR QUICKEST?

- JOSH BARNES

THE constant debates in local clubrooms will be put to bed when a handful of the quickest bowlers in the region face off in front of a speed gun.

Star quicks Tommy Smith, Dale Kerr and Zane Richter have all jumped on board for the bowl off, which will take place in the innings break of the fire-relief T20 at Geelong City on Sunday.

South Barwon’s Nick Lynch and East Belmont’s David Lineen — who will be playing in the match between the GCA Country Week side and an AllStar team — are two other quicks who have also vied for the title of Geelong’s quickest in the past.

Each bowler will get three deliveries in front of the speed gun to bowl the fastest speed, with donations to the relief cause accepted for entry.

The competition is open to anyone in a bid to find the quickest bowler in Geelong.

Newcomb & District skipper Richter was last st measured in 2018 when he e topped out at 133km/h.

“In the UK last year I went again ain and I was about 128, 8, 130, around there,” ” Richter said.

“I feel quicker now but it’s hard to tell. I’d love to o test myself.”

Leopold fast st man Smith nomininated Richter and Lynch as the two quickest he has seen this s season.

He said he had d never had his speed tested.

“I’ve been pretty stiff, whenever I have had the chance to test it I have been broken down so I don’t know what speed I’ll get to,” he said.

“Obviously you know some days you feel you are on, but it’s hard to tell yourself how quick you are bowling.”

South African import Richter said he felt at his best when unleashing a new ball.

“I think with the new rock it comes out a bit quicker. That’s how it feels at least,” Richter said.

Kerr has long been believed to be the fastest bowler in the

BPCA. The Anglesea quick has ripped through batting lineups for fun this year, taking 39 wickets at an average of 6.87.

He has 10 more wickets than any other player playing first XI cricket in the Geelong region this year, ahead of Marshall’s Jake Dubbeldam.

Kerr nominated Jan Juc speedster Nick Smith as the next quickest in the BPCA and said he was unsure how he would go in the competition.

“I’ve got no idea,” he said. “When I was a lot younger I bowled in front of a radar when I was maybe 15, but I don’t remember what my speed was.”
