Colac may farewell both Floyd brothers

- TOBY PRIME

COLAC officials knew they would be without at least one half of the Floyd brothers in 2020.

But it appears Ethan could be joining Campbell in leaving last year’s GFL grand finalist.

Ethan Floyd, one of the club’s top young talents, is attempting to return to Birregurra.

The 20-year-old played junior and senior football at the Colac & District Football League club as a teenager before he was scouted by Geelong Falcons.

The silky midfielder was touted as an AFL prospect, invited to the draft combine in 2017.

He has played 35 games for Colac in the past two seasons, including last year’s grand final loss against St Mary’s, and was listed in the Tigers’ best players in each of their two finals.

Birregurra president Mick Paddick said Ethan Floyd approached the club last week about a return but remained a C Colac player.

“We’re just awaiting Colac t to go through their processes,” P Paddick said.

“Colac will have to consider what options they have available to them and we’ve indicated to Colac we’ll respect that process and give them the space they need to do whate ever they do on their side.

“Ideally that happens in the n next week or so.”

Paddick said Ethan Floyd’s desire to leave Colac came as a surprise.

“He has given some reasons why but we’re sitting on those at the moment,” he said. “He has indicated he’d like to play for Birregurra this year and we’ll support him through that and respect Colac’s processes.

“Hopefully it will be dealt with in the next week or so.”

It was confirmed last month Campbell Floyd would be relocating to rural Western Australia to take up a job opportunity with former Geelong AFL-listed player Timm House. The brothers also had VFL experience with Geelong.

Campbell Floyd was selected in last year’s GFL Team of the Year.

Birregurra has made 10 of the past 11 finals series, winning premierships in 2011, 2016 and 2017.
