ROCKIN’ ROBIN

FRENCH CONNECTION: Sciot-Siegrist sizzles as Minjee makes her move

- LACHIE YOUNG

DUAL champion Minjee Lee has set herself for another tilt at a Vic Open title after scoring a six-under 67 yesterday.

Lee had a run of four birdies and an eagle in a six-hole hotspot on the Creek course that powered her up the leaderboard in the morning session on day two at Thirteenth Beach.

The 2014 and ’18 winner will start as favourite to repeat her past performances on the weekend given her previous success on the Beach course and said she would look to use her experience to her advantage if she was confronted with any unwanted situations on Saturday and Sunday.

“I will definitely go off my past experiences and other wins I have had,” Lee said.

“There is still a lot of golf to be played, so I am just going to go one shot at a time and just play my own game.

“With the experience I have had winning here before it gives me a little bit of confidence if I do get into (tricky situations), but I am just going to try my best and have some fun.”

Lee opened in steady fashion on Thursday, shooting three-under on the Beach course, and was slow out of the blocks yesterday, starting her round with five pars.

But the top ranked Australian player said she was happy to bide her time until the putts started rolling in.

“I had a pretty solid day today,” she said.

“I had a little bit of a slow start and I think I started with maybe five or six pars, so it was nice to get it going towards the back of the front nine and then into the back nine.

“I was trying to make birdies but ended up with pars.

“I had a couple of good saves in there as well as some birdie opportunities, but I holed some nice putts so that is a good sign.”
