Arndt urges supporters to ‘maintain rage’
MEN’S rights activist Bettina Arndt has reportedly asked her supporters to maintain the rage and write to senators in “astonishment” after the Upper House backed a call for her to be stripped of her Order of Australia.
Labor and government senators passed the motion on Tuesday condemning Ms Arndt’s comments about the murders of Queensland mother Hannah Clarke and her three children.
In an email to supporters after it became clear the Government would support the motion, Ms Arndt asked her followers to “maintain the rage” and “write to your local senators expressing your astonishment at this capitulation to mob rule”, Sky News reported yesterday.
“It is a very sorry day for this country that this key branch of our government is engaging in virtue signalling at the expense of supporting free first with $2500, then $500 bids before an aggressive $600,000 offer to close down the competition.
New owner Rachel Ronan is trading a Balwyn rental property for the home in Lara.
“The house is pretty gorgeous. It’s worth moving for and I’m happy to do the commute,” Ms Ronan said.
“I work in Collingwood, so the Myki is the right price from Lara — that’s still affordable.
“It’s a great location and it’s got the tennis court, and parks, the library and the supermarspeech and proper discussion of key social issues,” she wrote.
Ms Arndt came under heavy fire last week for congratulating Queensland police for keeping an open mind on the possibility that Ms Clarke’s estranged husband Rowan Baxter might have been driven too far.
She was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in January for “significant service to the community as a social commentator, and to gender kets are not far,” she said.
“I love weatherboards, it’s a gorgeous home, it’s been cared for and it’s got a new extension.”
Ms Ronan said she would only be likely to get a small, two-bedroom unit for that price in Melbourne.
Going over $600,000 means Ms Ronan will not only have to pay mortgage lenders insurance because she holds a small deposit, but also a stamp duty bill of around $1000.
Ray White Lara selling agent Terry Cleary said equity through advocacy for men”.
Ms Arndt said it was “totally inappropriate” and a dangerous precedent for politicians to interfere in decisions that are made by the Council for the Order of Australia and authorised by Governor-General David Hurley.
She called on her followers to also write to Mr Hurley and urged the honours council to state that it would not be influenced by political pressure. $600,000 was the level that several buyers were prepared to go to at the auction to hold their spots on the home loan deposit scheme.
Mr Cleary said most of the people who packed the Lara auction site, Millars cafe, were keen on the Rennie St house. Others waited for a four-bedroom house at 40 Moorhen Drive, Lara, which sold for $566,500 later in the in-room auction.
“There were two good bidders there and it was a good contest,” he said.
