THREE people were taken to hospital at the weekend following two crashes in the region.

A 21-year-old driver was in the Royal Melbourne hospital in a stable condition last night after he crashed into a tree on Saturday morning.

An air ambulance landed on Ryrie St after the P-plater driving a delivery truck crashed into a light post and tree.

Debris from the truck was strewn across the road and in

Eastern Park, and part of a wooden fence was damaged in the incident.

The driver, who has serious lower leg injuries, was flown to hospital after the SES and CFA worked for about an hour to free him from the vehicle.

Victoria Police Senior Constable James Fitzgerald told the Geelong Advertiser crews cut out the door and a large section of the front of the vehicle to remove the man following the single-vehicle crash.

“He’s hit a power pole, taken out fences and comes to rest. He’s done some significant damaged to his lower legs,” Sen-Constable Fitzgerald said.

Ryrie St, between Normanby St and Connor St, was closed for two hours following the 7am crash as police sent traffic on detours.

Meanwhile, two men were taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision at Mannerim.

A van and a Hyundai SUV collided at the intersection of Banks Rd and Swan Bay

Rd just before 1.30pm yesterday. A man in his 50s was trapped in the van that flipped onto its side during the incident.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said a man in his 50s was taken to Geelong hospital in a stable condition with back soreness.

A man in his 30s also involved in the collision was taken to Geelong hospital with hip injuries.

A stop sign governs the intersection of Banks Rd and Swan Bay Rd.
