Ben’s fit camps are now in pole position

- GREG DUNDAS

FITNESS trainer Ben Dodds is doing his bit to keep the Geelong community running during the coronavirus shutdown.

Forced to move his fit camps and personal training sessions online this week because of social distancing regulations, Dodds decided to provide extra motivation for the health conscious people of Highton and Belmont.

He pinned instructions for a simple body weight circuit to the light poles at Belmont’s McDonald Reserve.

The idea is that anyone can work up a sweat on the circuit by running between the poles and completing Dodds’ instructions.

“We all just have to improvise at the moment, and this was one idea I thought of to encourage people to get outside and be active and busy while following the social distancing rules we’re now living by,” he said.

“The oval is a safe place with enough room for people to come down at time that suits them and train, either on their own, or perhaps with their kids. It’s a pretty simple 20minute circuit that should suit most ages or fitness levels.

“Especially as we’re isolating at home it’s important people try to get outside where they can and release some good endorphins.”

Dodds is a well-known figure at McDonald Reserve, home of the South Barwon Football and Highton Cricket clubs.

Dodds Fitness usually conducts its boot camps and personal training sessions face-toface, but has been forced to use live online tutorials this week.

“I still want to keep it personal, and that’s what my clients enjoy. They like the accountability, the camaraderie and the banter, and we’re still managing to have all that, it’s just online now,” Dodds said.

“We’ve still got plenty of people getting up at 6am to train, whether it’s in their loungeroom, their garage, or their backyard.

“I think they feel if they don’t get it done then, like they’re used to, they might stop altogether.”
