BARWON HEALTH RECRUITING IN FIGHT AGAINST PANDEMIC:
BARWON Health has launched a recruitment drive to help aid its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Applications are open to fill more than 100 new positions ranging from casual to permanent and ongoing roles.
The new staff will help deal with increased demand and provide a buffer in case of employees falling ill.
The health service has even floated health professionals coming out of retirement to help combat COVID-19.
Barwon Health chief executive Frances Diver said the health service’s first priority was to redeploy and upskill staff from non-essential services that had been temporarily closed or reduced.
It was last week announced that Barwon Health would scale back and close all nonurgent services in response to the pandemic.
Wards and a specialist clinic will operate from the former Geelong Private Hospital site to help combat COVID-19, after the State Government announced it would be recommissioned to aid the fight against coronavirus.
“While there are many staff being trained to work in new positions, we also want to hire and train up new staff members to help respond to demand created by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ms Diver said.
“We want registered nurses, enrolled nurses, support services including cleaners, patient services assistants, and former nurses who have their AHPRA registration and want to return to work.
“This could include those who went on maternity leave, changed careers or retired, but now want to return to the workforce with the training we will offer.”
Ms Diver said the new staff were needed across the organisation.
“So whether you have an interest in aged care, rehabilitation, or skills in intensive care or acute nursing, we want to hear from people looking to join Barwon Health,” Ms Diver said.
“There are also opportunities for undergraduate nursing and medical students to apply for positions, including recent graduates who aren’t currently working.”
