TERRACE CHANGES A SNAPSHOT OF FAILURE

-

WHAT has become of our once great city? The pictures of the past reveal a real truth to the destruction and culpability of Geelong city councils past and present.

Where Moorabool St once boasted double-laned roadways either side and ample angle parking as far as the eye could see and the beautiful roundabout at the bottom of Gheringhap St that more than handled the traffic loads of the working class, driving back into town from the Ford Motor Company or Shell and International Harvester to what we now have to embrace in the name of progress is an absolute joke.

This calamity of traffic lights and narrowed roads is one thing but the latest development beggars belief. On what is possibly our busiest carriageway, La Trobe Tce, when driving in a northerly direction, we now have the right-hand turning lane effectively removed by way of a roped off line.

What was once a simple righthand turn into Ryrie St has now been transformed into a no go zone. Motorists are encouraged, by stealth, to continue down the terrace until reaching the turn-off to Geelong train station, thus completing a ridiculous lap around four city blocks to get back to your original destination!

I’m not sure as to why this has been put into place but it begs the question, why. Hasn’t our CBD been reduced enough already?

I feel for anyone that owns a business in the area as it seems the main objective is to deny anyone in a motorised vehicle from attending to shop in this area. Or is this the start of another Green Spine adjustment?

One only has to journey to Ballarat or Warrnambool to compare and see just what our inept council has to answer for! And if any of our town planners read this, please enlighten us as to why this has been done.
