Jan Juc stage will be ready by Christmas

-

A PROPOSED $140,000 outdoor performance space is one step closer for Jan Juc after the Surf Coast Shire released its concept designs this week.

The permanent structure, within a natural amphitheatre, will allow the community to hold small, local performances with its design set to “complement its surroundings,” according to council.

Surf Coast Shire Mayor Rose Hodge said the community-led project, initiated by Jan

Juc Live, will transform the “much-loved” Bob Pettitt Reserve.

“It’s a special place that brings people from all walks of life together,” she said.

“The new outdoor performance space is designed to allow our community to make more use of the reserve, while maintaining everything locals love about it, especially its natural beauty.

“At a time when we’re yearning to be together, this project brings us hope that we will once again gather for Christmas carols and other smaller events like acoustic performances.”

Construction for the fullyfunded Federal Government project is set to commence in August or September and be completed by December 2020, council said.

Jan Juc Live member Paul Thompson said the area was in need of better facilities — both for performers and audiences

— and residents were closer to seeing their dream come true.

“This project has come from the community for the community that will see controlled family events and health and wellbeing activities enjoyed in the park for generations to come,” Mr Thompson said.

Residents can submit a question or comment to council about the Bob Pettitt Reserve Outdoor Performance Space until May 22 via surfcoast.vic.gov.au/yoursay.
