Daughters know the drill for classy reno

- NICOLE MAYNE

A SINGLE mum passionate about interior design has set a style benchmark for fringe suburb Newcomb with a classy character home renovation.

Chris-maree Wilson and her daughters Zara, 20, and Paris, 18, have just put the finishing touches on a year-long project to restore one of the area’s older period weatherboards.

The handy trio have even transformed 33 Boundary Rd’s existing man cave into a ‘she shed’ and installed an outdoor bath in the private garden.

Serial renovator and interior design consultant Ms Wilson said years working in the building and real estate industries gave her the hands-on skills to tackle a major renovation. While expert trades were called for jobs such as restumping, she tiled the bathroom and prepped and painted the house herself.

The family is hoping to capitalise on the improvements and rising values in Newcomb over recent years after listing the four-bedroom house with price hopes of $640,000 to $700,000.

It traded for $390,000 in 2012, CoreLogic records show.

Ms Wilson said she saw potential in the period house and loved its location, just minutes from the Geelong CBD.

“Just at the end of the street is the botanic gardens so that is the reason why I bought here,” she said. “I had been looking at the market and I knew that Newcomb was going to be a great area. And I wanted my girls to see that they could do something like this.”

Ms Wilson said the last piece of the puzzle was turning the former man cave in the double garage into a she shed that doubles as a rumpus room.

McGrath, Geelong, listing agent Wayne Baker said the renovation was a shining example of the changes sweeping through Newcomb.
