Geelong offers bulging rewards package for loyal supporters

- TOBY PRIME

GEELONG members will be offered free entry into next year’s away games as part of a suite of benefits to supporters who remain with the club.

Members will also be offered Cats Shop vouchers, a price freeze in 2021, signed jumpers and free upgrades on next year’s membership.

An honour wall will also be established to recognise those who remain as members.

Geelong chief executive Brian Cook said existing GA members would be allowed free GA access into away fixtures at Marvel Stadium and the MCG.

“We would have five or six games in Melbourne next year as away games and they would be allowed free access for entry into those games — and we would pay for that,” Cook said.

A price freeze would be put on all classifications of membership for next year.

Members were emailed last night with an update for this season and a list of incentives to remain the club during the pandemic.

“Geelong Cats members will retain their game access if crowds are permitted in the 2020 season,” it stated.

The topic of memberships has been a delicate one since the season was suspended after Round 1 as its likely fans will not be able to attend games this year. Many have considered their membership as a donation in 2020.

Cook said only 1 or 2 per cent of members — the equivalent of about 600-1200 memberships — had received partial or full refunds.

“We’re doing our best to ensure our supporters maintain their membership, that’s probably the best way of putting it,” he said.

“We’re providing alternatives to them, but by and large, we’re asking our supporters to stay strong with Geelong and help us through this situation we’re in and continue to support the club as best they can.

“We’ve been proud of what our members have done thus far and, by and large, they have left the dollars in the hands of the football club because they’re concerned, as much as we are, with our situation.”

Cook said an overwhelming number of Geelong fans wanted to support the club during a challenging economic climate.

BY AND LARGE, WE’RE ASKING OUR SUPPORTERS TO STAY STRONG WITH GEELONG.” BRIAN COOK
