I started swimming when I was 10 as I loved being in water and, being a hearing-impaired child, swimming was the best sport for me to take up. My best friend at the time also started to swim and although we ended up at different clubs, we still could compete against each other, which made it fun.
I love racing and knowing that all my hard work in the pool during training comes through in my races. I love the fitness aspect of the sport, and it teaches me to be disciplined with my health and fitness. The most fun part of swimming is the social interaction with my teammates and I have made a lot of good friends over the years through my swimming. I have met many kids from other states at nationals and have remained friends with them. When I swam internationally at the World Deaf Championships, I also had the privilege of experiencing international competition.
What is a normal week of training like for you and what is it during the COVID19 period?
Normally I would train weekdays and on Saturdays pre-COVID for two hours 20 minutes. We start with dry land work for 20 minutes, followed by a pool session. Now during COVID I have set up a space for myself at home where I do a gym routine comprising of weights, endurance and explosive workouts. I also go for runs and walks to keep me fit. My mum bought me an open water wetsuit and I go for swims in the ocean to keep me swim fit.
