Further sex claim against myotherapist

- RUSTY WOODGER

A FORMER myotherapist from Geelong has been hit with a new charge alleging sexual misconduct towards one of his patients.

Jonathan Wemyss, 51, appeared at Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday after being charged by detectives from the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Mr Wemyss is accused of directing sexual activity at a female patient who attended Body Balance Myotherapy in Highton.

The Barrabool Rd clinic was owned and operated by Mr Wemyss until it closed in July last year.

Earlier this year, Mr Wemyss was spared a jail term after pleading guilty to directing sexual activity at another person and two counts of sexual assault. Those charges related to two other female patients who attended his clinic for treatment.

Prosecutor Hossam Elboray told the court yesterday another complainant had since come forward alleging Mr Wemyss had committed the “exact” same type of offending against her.

The new charge arises from an alleged incident that occurred before Mr Wemyss was sentenced in January to a community correction order.

Magistrate Peter Mellas, who sentenced Mr Wemyss on the previous occasion, said he would be inclined to impose a similar sentence if the Highton man were to plead guilty to the current offending.

The case was adjourned to July 15. Mr Wemyss is yet to enter a plea. His bail was extended until the next court appearance.
