CATS JUMP IN FOR HEALTHIER KIDS
THE Geelong Cats are kicking in to help create healthy schools in the region.
The football club has partnered with the State Government and Cancer Council Victoria’s Healthy Schools Achievement Program, helping students build healthy habits.
The program currently operates in 65 Geelong schools, helping more than 30,000 young students learn about physical activity, healthy eating, mental health and wellbeing, safe environments, smoking, and alcohol and other drugs.
Schools taking part in the program are supported to achieve a series of milestones addressing key health areas, after which they receive State Government recognition as a “healthy school”.
The Cats will add to the local program by helping schools participate in the club’s health and wellbeing community outreach initiatives, including Healthy Heroes, Cyber Cats and Just Think.
“This unique partnership will see schools within our region embed our programs and practices and inspire kids to embrace healthy habits,” the Cats’ general manager of community, Sarah Albon, said.
Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher welcomed the partnership.
“The best way for the City of Greater Geelong to deliver the achievement program to primary and secondary schools is to collaborate,” Cr Asher said.
“We are thrilled to support great organisations like the Geelong Cats, which provide innovative health and wellbeing initiatives for schools through their community programs.”
