Top man on move

- NATALEE KERR

SURF Coast Shire Council’s chief executive will stand down after more than five years in the role to become chief executive of a Geelong not-for-profit organisation.

Keith Baillie announced yesterday he would be taking up a position at Gforce Employment Solutions as of September 7.

Mayor Rose Hodge said Mr Baillie would leave a legacy that included a record capital works program and a dedication to achieving long-term financial sustainability for council.

“Keith has demonstrated enormous drive and commitment,” Cr Hodge said.

“I recall our trips to Parliament House to lobby Federal Government minsters where I saw first-hand his commitment and professionalism in representing the shire and broader region.”

Mr Baillie, who grew up in

Geelong, joined the council in 2014 after working as chief executive at Campaspe Shire for eight years.

Through his leadership, the council has achieved funding for projects including Lorne’s Stribling Reserve and Torquay’s multi-purpose indoor stadium.

Cr Hodge said Mr Baillie’s work would continue to pay off for the years to come.

“Whatever the endeavour, Keith puts his heart and soul into seeing it through to a successful conclusion,” she said.

Mr Baillie said serving the Surf Coast community had been a privilege.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity and thank the councillors and community for their support,” he said.

“Council exists to ‘Help our community and environment to thrive’ — council has dedicated and wonderful staff who are committed to this purpose.”

The council has yet to announce who will take over.
