Jeep to be brand No.18 in Gorell dealership kingdom

- HARRISON TIPPET

GEELONG’S motoring monarch Rex Gorell appears set to add another dealership to his car kingdom.

Plans for a Jeep and Isuzu showroom and service centre on Gordon Ave in Geelong West have been revealed through a planning application sent to the City of Greater Geelong.

The showroom would add to the extensive Rex Gorell presence on the strip, where there are Mini, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, Peugeot, MG and Volvo shopfronts.

Paul Gorell said the new shopfront would hopefully be up and running around “late September, early October”.

“Jeep will be an addition to our brands stable, it’s adding brand number 18,” Mr Gorell said. “We thought the timing was right with some of the exciting new models they’re bringing out over the next 12 months or so.”

From next month the Gorell Group will offer Jeep parts and servicing from its Isuzu workshop on La Trobe Tce, and also hopes to have the first new model Jeeps arrive.

Plans show the new dealership would include Jeep, Isuzu and Rex Gorell signage on the former AWM Electrical and Data Suppliers store on Gordon Ave, with works expected to cost up to $1 million.

The showroom will include a delivery bay, lounge, manager’s office and two sales offices, along with 400sq m of floor space, plans show.

The planned rear service centre and workshop will have access via Autumn St.

The Gorell family boasts a “continuous business presence in Geelong since arriving in the city in 1854”, and opened the Rex Gorell Family Groups first dealership in 1980, selling Fords.
