$3m-plus house sold in days

- NICOLE MAYNE

A $3 million-plus Newtown house has been snapped up in eight days to join the ranks of the blue chip suburb’s most expensive sales.

A young Geelong family waiting for just the right property to put down longterm roots jumped at the chance to buy 15 Nantes St.

The five-bedroom, Hamptons-style house is on a 1221sq m north-facing block with views of the You Yangs.

Newtown agent Dale Whitford said he could not reveal the sale price but it is believed to be around the

$3.2 million to $3.5 million quoted range.

“It sold to a young family who are originally from out of Geelong but have been here for a number of years,” Mr Whitford said.

“They have been renting and looking for something and this one came up and it ticked the boxes.”

The near-new, architect designed house replaces an old clinker brick home on the site that last traded for $922,500 in 2017.

It offers five living rooms and luxe finishes likes herringbone oak floors, marble benchtops and a gas fire with a stone chimney.

“It was a very high quality property on a big block of land and those things are not as common as you would think,” Mr Whitford said.

“It was very, very well designed but not so sophisticated that you didn’t feel as though you sit down.”

He said all segments of his agency’s markets were performing well, with several top end sales in recent weeks.

He said another property at 163 Kilgour St, Geelong beat price hopes on the back of strong competition.

“We had four parties put forward their best offers We were quoting $850,000 to $900,000 and it sold for in excess of the range just through competition,” he said.
