Cats won’t go back into their shells, says Henry

MILESTONE man Jack Henry has credited Geelong’s change of approach against Gold Coast to lessons learnt from the previous two games against Carlton and Melbourne.

The Cats were noticeably keener to take the game on against the Suns, and were rewarded for their bold play, with Henry declaring his team had been keen to fix up its ball movement.

“It was a little bit different,” Henry said.

Carlton game and other games when we are on the back foot. We don’t want to go into our shells and play safe, we want to keep playing with a bit of flair, getting forward and being proactive and try to win the game that way.

“So I think we did that well, we didn’t get too flustered at all, and we just shortened our focus instead of worrying too much about the outcome.”

Henry notched his 50th game with little fanfare, bringing up the milestone on the same night club champions Joel Selwood (300 games) and Gary Ablett (350) entered their names into the record books.

He said it would be an achievement he would reflect on at a later date.

“It is nice,” he said.

“It has happened pretty quick, but ... as a player, you aren’t really looking at the games.

“It will be nice to reflect on it at some point, especially the occasion it was for the football club having Gary and Joel playing their big milestone games.

“So that definitely makes it more special for me in what was a smaller achievement, but on what was a big day for the club.”

The Cats now head to Sydney before flying to Perth, and Henry admitted the week ahead would be all about recovery.

“As with any five-day week it will be a pretty heavy recovery-based week for us,” he said.

“We will do some skills when we can, and just get the body right.

“The season was interrupted a little bit but we have done enough work and know the game style well enough to play and be ready for anything. It is one of those years when you have to be ready for anything, so that is the way we are looking at it.”
