PLAN NEEDS MORE LAND
THE state government’s $318 million Barwon Heads Road Duplication project will require an amendment to the planning scheme in order for construction to begin.
Major Road Projects Victoria ( MRPV) is seeking a planning scheme amendment to obtain the required planning approvals to acquire extra land to build the project.
The road upgrade is set to extend 4km between Settlement Road, Belmont, and Reserve Road, Marshall.
It includes building a new bridge over the railway line at Marshall to remove a dangerous level-crossing.
Other works include upgrading intersections and installing new street lighting, road signage, drainage and landscaping.
The road duplication, which will run along the eastern side of the Armstrong Creek growth area, is set to be finished by 2023.
Once completed, it is hoped the duplicated road will improve safety as well as reduce traffic congestion. It is set to have the capacity to cater for 33,000 daily vehicle journeys by 2031.
MRPV is calling for the community to provide feedback on the latest stage of its plan until July 26.
MRPV said it would combine public feedback in a report and submit it to the planning minister as part of a formal request to amend the planning scheme.
