Teen held over death

-

A TEENAGE girl alleged to have murdered her 10-year-old cousin on a farm in northern NSW had recently begun acting oddly for no apparent reason, her mother has allegedly told police.

The girl, who had no history of being in trouble with police, was arrested on Wednesday after her cousin’s body was found in her family home in Gunnedah.

She did not appear in children’s court on Thursday, when it was ordered she remain in custody until her next court hearing.

Police said a woman found her niece, 10, bleeding in a bedroom when she returned to her house after tending to farm chores.

When police arrived, the girl was dead. The teenage girl was arrested at a neighbouring property 90 minutes later.

Police documents allege the girl was murdered between 7am and 7.20am on Wednesday.
