Familiar TV face missing
POLICE have appealed for public help in the search for well-known The Footy Show impersonator Andrew Startin, who went missing more than two weeks ago.
The 42-year-old was last seen in Hamilton at Nigretta Falls carpark on June 26.
Police said Mr Startin’s family was worried for his welfare due to a medical condition.
Friend Belinda Meyers said she was “very concerned”.
“When I spoke to him he seemed himself but this is very out of character for Andrew and it’s very concerning. I just hope he’s OK,” Ms Meyers said.
Police believe the impersonator, who was living in Maribyrnong, may be driving interstate in a silver Honda Accord with registration number SDGB99.
He is described as about 180cm tall, thin and has brown hair and eyes.
Mr Startin’s TV career began in 1997 after he sent a video of himself doing an impersonation of Sam Newman to The Footy Show.
He appeared on the Channel 9 show several times doing impressions of footy personalities including Bruce McAvaney, Mike Sheahan and Gerard Whateley.
In 2018, after working as an impersonator for more than 20 years, Mr Startin started working at The Langham Hotel in Melbourne, where he was head doorman.
Ms Meyers said Mr Starton was “a natural comedian” who loved to make people laugh.
“Andrew’s so much fun. He always has a smile on his face,” she said.
“I just hope he gets in touch. Of course we’re so worried about him.”
Anyone with information about Mr Startin’s whereabouts is urged to call Cheltenham Police Station on 9583 9767.
