Frank review to hurt

Sloppy Blues on notice

-

FRANK Lampard warned his Chelsea flops he “won’t forget” the lessons learned from their damaging 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United yesterday.

Lampard’s side was punished for some dismal defending at Bramall Lane as David McGoldrick struck twice, either side of Oli McBurnie’s goal.

The Blues remain third after a second defeat in their past four games.

They could be down to fifth by Tuesday if Leicester beats Bournemouth and Manchester United defeats Southampton.

It was another alarmingly sloppy display from Chelsea, whose other loss since the restart was a defensively shambolic 3-2 loss at West Ham.

Lampard was furious with his team’s lack of desire.

“They were better than us, physically, in the mind and with the ball. so you lose the game,” he said.

“They were stronger than us. You feel and hear every noise and all I could hear was Sheffield United voices.

“They are a good team. If you come here and perform below par, this is what will happen.

“You analyse all season and review and move forward.

“I learned a lot and I won’t forget that.”

In other matches, Jurgen Klopp was frustrated by Liverpool’s lack of killer instinct as Burnley became the first visiting side to avoid defeat at Anfield in the Premier League for 18 months in a 1-1 draw.

Andy Robertson’s first-half header had the champions on course to maintain their perfect home record this season and close in on a record points tally for the English top flight.

But the Reds were made to pay for a host of missed chances when Jay Rodriguez’s fine finish earned a point to further Burnley’s late push for a place in Europe next season.

“We left the door open, we didn’t close it,” Klopp said.

Raheem Sterling scored a hat-trick as Manchester City ensured it would finish in the top four with a 5-0 win over Brighton, as the club waits to find out whether it will be allowed to compete in the Champions League next season.

Norwich was condemned to a record fifth relegation from the Premier League as Michail Antonio’s four-goal blitz fired West Ham to a 4-0 win at Carrow Road.

A seventh-successive league defeat for Daniel Farke’s side sealed its fate as Antonio’s ruthless display boosted West Ham’s own survival bid.

Watford also moved to the brink of survival as two Troy Deeney penalties beat Newcastle 2-1 and moved it level with West Ham on 34 points.
