STRESS-FIGHTINGJACKET

- NATALEE KERR

A GEELONG designer is launching a world-first denim jacket that features hidden fidget objects to help relieve nervous energy, anxiety and stress.

Emily Rastas’ fashionable outerwear engages one of the most powerful senses – touch – as a calming stimulus.

The jacket includes faux fur in the pockets, spinning buttons and a secret patchwork maze hidden between the outer layer and a soft lining.

The 24-year-old (pictured) said by harnessing the sense of touch, the jackets aimed to help relieve nervous energy, anxiety and stress.

“Our denim jackets are like a wearable stress ball and security blanket,” Ms Rastas said. “Each jacket has six different tactile elements to play with that can help ease your inner tensions.”

Ms Rastas was inspired to design the wellness clothing after suffering a severe back injury 18 months ago. As a result, she had to learn to deal with chronic pain, plus the anxiety that comes with it.

“I want the jacket to help wearers feel more secure and confident,” she said.

Ms Rastas has launched a Kickstarter campaign with a $30,000 target to help move the unisex jackets, which are available for all ages, into production.

She will then release another design – with eight ready to go – after each $10,000 raised from her initial goal.

“I always knew I wanted to design, but I also knew that I wanted to help people,” Ms Rastas said.

“I’m able to combine both passions with this clothing line and it’s my dream to get it out there.”
