Moran, Kerr given nod in Vic country cricket team
JORDAN Moran and Dale Kerr have been rewarded for stunning seasons, with selection in the Victorian Country Cricket League’s Team of the Year.
Grovedale batting maestro Moran and Anglesea allrounder Kerr were unveiled in the 12-man squad, which was whittled down from a total of 96 players. The selection process includes the application of criteria based on player performances using statistics from home-and-away matches of each country cricket association’s top grade or division.
The team contains two opening batsmen, four top and middle order batsmen, an allrounder, a wicketkeeper and four bowlers, at least one of whom has to be a spinner.
“The VCCL team of the year is decided on the basis of total runs and wickets, the best averages and the most wicketkeeping dismissals. All other variables are discounted,” VCCL chairman of selectors Rob McIntyre said.
“This season’s nominations have again seen some outstanding performances in country cricket associations across this state.
“Quite a number of associations are seeing players with Premier Cricket experience returning to their original clubs which strengthens the quality of cricket in those competitions.”
Kerr, the opening bowler for the ’Seas, was selected for the second time after gaining a place in the 2017-18 team.
He claimed 45 wickets at 7.33 and made 388 runs at 29.85.
Reigning Jack Sing medallist Moran also enjoyed a fine season for Grovedale in GCA1, crunching 644 runs at 92.
