KERR TO RESUME A RATTLING CAREER

- JOSH BARNES

DUAL-SPORT star Dale Kerr has had enough of trying to fill his time on weekends and is itching to get back on the field.

A fixture at the Anglesea football and cricket clubs, Kerr has had Saturdays free for the first time in recent memory during the pandemic.

It has the best cricketer on the Bellarine ready to make an impact when the sport returns.

“Without football this season, I think everyone is keen to get out there and do something on the weekend,” he said.

But Kerr resting up won’t sit well with batsmen in BPCA A1, as the bowling all-rounder is raring to continue the stunning form that got him into the VCCL Team of the Year last summer.

Kerr dominated for Anglesea, leading the Roos to the premiership after they finished 25 points clear on top of the BPCA A1 ladder before finals were cancelled due to COVID-19.

The paceman took 46 wickets at an average of 7.91.

He backed that up with 397 runs at 33, with a top score of 119 not out.

It was the second time Kerr had been named in the VCCL team — which is drawn from players across the state — after receiving the honour for his 2017-18 season.

“I would still like to make a few more runs with the bat and I feel like I can do a bit better there,” he said.

“I thought I bowled not too badly and got some reward with some wickets, but there are also blokes in the side who bowl really well and don’t get the rewards.

“It’s a team sport and there are some good blokes bowling at the other end, which helps.”

Those up the other end formed an outstanding attack.

Anglesea took 28 more wickets and conceded just under 300 fewer runs than any other BPCA A1 side last season, a major factor in them finishing on top.

Kerr said his patience and accuracy had improved.

“Earlier in my career, I was a bit wayward and always trying to get a wicket, so now I’ve found bowling to a plan and in partnerships with my teammate down the other end gets you a lot more success,” he said.
