Shooter supplies more Ammo

- JOSH BARNES

A CLOSE relationship with her new coach and a good experience in the social club has encouraged star shooter Ruby Horton to cross to Geelong Amateur.

One of the GFNL’s most effective players for the better part of a decade at South Barwon, Horton has joined new coach Riley Richardson at the BFNL club.

Horton was already considering a move.

She had initially planned to take 2020 off netball and travel to Europe, but when Richardson landed the job at Amateurs, Horton followed.

The pair had previously worked together at the Geelong Cougars.

Horton’s partner, Guy Hardiman, joined the football side of the club in 2019 and introduced her to the place.

“I was meant to have a year off and potentially look for a new club so it has fallen into place,” Horton said.

“(Guy) jumped over year and loved it.

“He didn’t have a bad word to say for it, so it seemed like an obvious move to me.

“The big jump was from Riley Richardson. He is one of my best mates.

“I was at Cougars with him and he is amazing.

“Him coaching and his vision has really made me want to play at Ammos.”

Horton will walk into a side hungry for success.

Geelong Amateurs has lost the past four A-grade grand finals, but with an extra shooter will become favourite in the Bellarine.

Richardson arrives with experience not only at the Cougars, but also as head coach of St Joseph’s.

“I know they are really hungry for (a premiership) and Riley will bring a lot to the club,” Horton said.

“He will bring a fresh vision and he is really excited and motivated as well.

“So having him there, I feel confident he can lead us to finals and hopefully a grand final as well.” last
