KEY MESSAGES

The only reason people will be able to leave home is for shopping for food and essentials, care and caregiving, work and study, and daily exercise. If you can work from home, you must.

You cannot have people visit your house unless they are a partner who resides elsewhere.

Face coverings are mandatory when you leave your property unless you have a medical condition or are exercising, such as jogging or running.

Continue to maintain the minimum 1.5m distance from people in public.

EDUCATION

Schools will operate via remote learning for all year levels. Specialist schools remain open. Childcare and kinders remain open for all children.

WHAT IS OPEN/CLOSED?

Unlike in Melbourne, retail and hardware stores remain open.

Pubs, restaurants and cafes will move to takeaway only.

Bottle shops remain open. Auctions will only be held online, while inspections of homes will only take place by private appointment.

Beauty and personal services are closed.

Hairdressers remain open.

Play centres are closed.

Outdoor playgrounds and skate parks are closed.

Galleries, zoos, wildlife parks and animal farms are closed.

Outdoor amusement parks are closed.

Indoor cinemas, concert venues, theatres and auditoriums are closed.

Indoor sports centres including gyms, training facilities and pools are closed. Community sport training and competition cannot occur.

EXERCISE

You cannot enter metropolitan Melbourne for exercise or for outdoor recreation.

People can travel from one regional local government area to another to exercise, but they cannot travel an “unreasonable distance”. For example, they couldn’t travel from Geelong to the Otways for a walk.

If you are doing exercise or physical activity where you are out of breath or puffing, such as jogging or running, you do not need to wear a face covering. You do have to carry a face covering with you so you can wear it before or after exercising, unless you have a lawful exception.

You must wear a face covering when walking for exercise even if the 1.5m physical distancing is maintained unless you have a lawful excuse, such as a medical condition, where it would be dangerous to have obstructed breathing while walking around.

Personal training outdoors can occur but with a limit of two participants, in addition to the instructor.

You can leave home for permitted outdoor exercise and recreation activities that can be done by yourself, with members of your household, or with one other person. This includes taking a walk or walking the dog, yoga in the park, running, bike riding, fishing, boating, surfing, recreational diving, golf, learning to drive, or reading in a park.

Exercise and recreational activities should be undertaken at the closest available locations to your home and 1.5m distance between people must be maintained.

You can go horseriding with one other person, plus an instructor if required. You should not travel further than you need to and you should horse ride at the closest available location to your home.

You can go to the beach for exercise or recreation only. You can swim or surf at the beach.

Golf courses can open, however a person can only play golf with one other person or members of their own household.
