Vision for city that’s progressive, decisive, diverse
JUST over a decade after moving to Geelong, Atamjit Singh is hoping to give back to the city that gave his family so many opportunities, by running for a spot on the council.
The Mount Duneed resident has declared his candidacy for Kardinia Ward in the October City of Greater Geelong elections, in a bid to “see a council that works for the benefit of the community”.
“I believe in hard work and better opportunities for the benefit and improvement of the individual, their family and the community at large,” Mr Singh said.
“I would like to see a progressive, decisive and diverse council which can deliver benefits for the Geelong community.’’
Mr Singh said his “many conversations with residents’’ revealed it was “important that our community continues to have access to services and facilities that strengthen our community wellbeing’’.
“This includes continual upgrades of sporting and recreational facilities in Kardinia and maintaining of our roads and planning for our future needs, such as a new library for Armstrong Creek and modernising existing libraries,” he said. “I am a strong believer in productive and viable economic planning, which is currently lacking in council decisions, ensuring that the rates you pay benefit you and your community.
“It will bring more financial stability, cut down waste, and create jobs in our region.
“I stand for a sensible and transparent council that creates opportunities for the people of Geelong.”
Mr Singh, of Indian origin, is a father of two young children, a self-employed manager of an education consultancy company, active member of the Geelong Sikh Community, representative of the Indian Association of Geelong in the Geelong Ethnic Council, and a Cats fan.
The CoGG council elections will be held via post, with ballots to be counted on October 24.
