Springs support for locals

- TOBY PRIME

CLIFTON Springs Golf Club has partnered with Bellarine businesses to give a lift to those experiencing hardship during COVID-19.

The club delivered its first community care packages on Monday to four families in the 3222 postcode, helping those doing it tough.

Clifton Springs general manager Danny Zernich said some stories had brought him to tears.

“There are a lot of people, let me tell you, that when I started reading some of these requests, they’re pretty sad. I get emotional now talking about it,” Zernich said.

“It’s not a big sacrifice we’re making, we’re not doing anything anyone else hasn’t done but someone’s going to get something on their door step.”

A family is nominated by a community member and the club decides who receives the gift pack.

It includes five cook-athome meals for four people prepared by Clifton Springs’ chefs, an iTunes voucher, a voucher for 18 holes of golf for two people, including cart hire,

and goodies from local businesses.

“There’s a lot of negativity out there so the club is looking at just trying to make someone’s day a little bit special,” Zernich said. “I approached most of the local businesses in the area and … everyone has jumped on board.

“When you see, especially places like the Zoo Cafe, who’s really doing it tough, jump at this idea … it may only be five coffees, it doesn’t matter, it’s the thought that goes behind it. Same with Bellarine Estate

Wines, Jenkins Fish, Miss Lillypilly — all these people have come on board.”

More information is available via the club’s social media channels.
