Quintet will look to soar again for the Seagulls in 2021
FIVE Geelong Falcons have recommitted to Barwon Heads, as the reigning premier announced 18 more players had signed on for 2021.
The Seagulls will welcome the return of young Falcons Charlie Brauer, Archie Hildebrandt, Sam Witherden, Flynn Young and Oli Wiltshire after they all recently extended their contracts.
Barwon Heads coach Mitch Herbison said with the NAB League facing a potential compressed 10-game season next year, it would enable the quintet to be available more often for the BFL side.
“These young men had a very frustrating 2020 with the NAB League being cancelled and the ongoing uncertainty around the competition,” Herbison said.
“The Geelong Falcons had a very strong squad and with the NAB League going to under-19 next year, we want to support these five players and hopefully they all get another opportunity with the Geelong Falcons. We have a big responsibility to both develop and nurture them.”
The recent signings add to the return of 2019 premiership defender Lachlan Slorach and senior players Zedekai Copland, Conor McKinnon, Bradley Michell, Mick Salmon and Harrison Mitchell.
2019 Colts captain Max Gumley, and promising youngster Declan Clark from Newtown have also committed to the Heads.
Other players to sign on include promising young ruckman Jake Stainsby, small forwards Samual Everett and Nic McMahon and reliable defender Sean O’Leary.
Oscar Young is also gearing himself for another season after attending the most training sessions in 2020, which saw him rewarded with a senior practice game appearance.
