Ex-Blues in chase for glory

- NICK WADE

LACHIE Henderson says he and Zach Tuohy came to Geelong to win a flag as the great mates prepare for a grand final berth a career in the making.

The pair spent five seasons together at Carlton before Henderson, 30, joined the Cats at the end of 2015 as part of the mega haul that included Patrick Dangerfield.

Tuohy, 30, followed him to Geelong a year later, chasing team success after feeling let down by the contract offer tabled by the Blues.

“It’s going to be really special, we’ve spent a lot of time together — 10 or 11 years of our careers,” Henderson, pictured, said.

“We came here to win a premiership and that’s the goal for all players, to win a premiership.”

The pair’s bond is so strong they developed a strong following with their podcast, The Elephant Rope, which attracted guests including Sally Fitzgibbons, Chris Judd and Mick Fanning.

They even came dressed as elephants for Mad Monday last year, complete with advertising signage dangling from their neck, in a cheeky plug of their work.

It is their first AFL Grand Final after both were part of Geelong’s recent preliminary final heartache.

“To be able to run out there with him on Saturday would be amazing. Even just sharing the whole experience with him is amazing,” Henderson said.

“He’s a really good mate of mine and one I hope gets every success and I hope we have some on Saturday.”

Henderson’s career revival has been one of the stories of the season.

Delisted 12 months ago, the Cats used their last pick in the rookie draft a month later to get him back on the list as insurance down back.

Both players remain out of contract for next year.
