Kerr in command yet again

- BILL HANSEN BPCA A1

GREY skies and a good feeling with the ball in hand meant Anglesea’s Dale Kerr (pictured) was back to his best on Saturday.

The Kangaroos all-rounder took a season best 6-17 as his side bowled out Barwon Heads for 36 to set up a 184-run win.

“The ball wasn’t coming out bad at all,” he said.

“Mother Nature helped me a little bit as it was overcast, and it was a strong breeze, which was helping me as well.

“In the field, we have the mentality of fielding at 80 per cent the whole game and I thought we did that.”

Anglesea’s next opponent is Jan Juc, when the club unveils its new pavilion in a standalone Australia Day clash.

“It will be a massive task as they have some really good players,” Kerr said.

After taking out his third Ray Menzies Medal for BPCA A1 cricketer of the year last season, Kerr is on track to claim his fourth.

He currently averages 6.48 with the ball with an economy rate of just 2.25, outstanding for the shorter format.

“I’m not a massive fan of the one-dayers as you don’t get to bowl as many overs but it’s not too bad,” Kerr said.

“It brings more blokes into the game and people are more attacking because of the shorter format.

“I hope two-dayers come back next year, though.”

The reigning premiers are yet to lose a game this year and are in the box seat to secure back-to-back flags.

“We are just taking it game by game and everyone is contributing and doing their little bit, which is good,” Kerr said.
