Deakin sports new ranking for its subjects
DEAKIN University has been ranked sixth in the nation for its sports-related subjects.
The university received the ranking as part of the annual Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings by Subject for 2021.
QS listed Deakin as one of Australia’s “noteworthy improvements” after jumping from ninth place to sixth within a year. Deakin vicechancellor Iain Martin said the success of Deakin’s sportrelated courses reaffirmed the university’s “ambitious, future-oriented mindset” towards education.
“To climb in these world rankings from 30th in 2018 to 6th in 2021 is a major achievement for our sport-related programs and research in sport science, sport management, physical education, sport technology, sport media and sport sociology,” he said.
“Sport at Deakin is more than its courses and research. Our students also have access to quality sports facilities and opportunities for direct engagement with Deakin’s sport partners such as the Geelong Football Club for practicum and internships as well as the broader sport industry.”
The 2021 instalment of the QS global university performance comparison provides data on the performance of 716 department programs at 37 Australian universities, across 51 academic disciplines.
The subject rankings are designed to help prospective students find the leading schools in their field of interest.
Rankings are based on research quality, accomplishments, academic reputation and graduate employment.
