Titans out to even score in semi-final

- BILL HANSEN

IT might be Armstrong Creek’s maiden BPCA A2 final, but captain Brandon Ross is confident his side won’t be overwhelmed by the occasion when it meets Inverleigh on Saturday.

“A few of the older boys have played some finals cricket so it’s not too unfamiliar for a lot of guys. But I think they are very excited for the club and it’s going to be a good weekend,” Ross said.

The Titans will be eager for revenge, having suffered a dramatic loss to the Kookaburras when the teams last met in Round 12.

The clash at Inverleigh Recreation Reserve looked all-but over when Armstrong Creek was sitting pretty on 4-119 in chase of 132.

However, the Titans then lost 6-10 and went down by just three runs.

“The batting collapse was disappointing but out of the 80 overs for the game we were in front for probably 70 of them,” Ross (pictured) said.

“It’s always disappointing to lose 6-10 when we are in such a strong position, but we know that we are thereabouts.

“We beat them once earlier on in the year and we know that they’re a classy outfit, so you need to be in the game right until the end.

“I think the game will be won with the ball; we will need to match them in that area this time round if we think we are going to win.

“We have a pretty tight bowling unit and I think if we all work together and play our part, then we can get the job done.”

Since that defeat on February 6, the Titans haven’t skipped a beat, securing comfortable wins over Wallington and Newcomb to find some momentum heading into the finals.

“Beating Wallington and Newcomb was good, but it would’ve been better to get the win over Inverleigh to make it three in a row,” Ross said.

“But it’s good to have a couple of wins behind us at least heading in.”
