Curved marvel

- NICOLE MAYNE PROPERTY GUIDE IN GT TODAY

A REMARKABLE Bannockburn mud brick house with striking curved ceilings and arched windows framing views of majestic river red gums is paradise for nature lovers.

The unusual architect-designed haven captures the feel of living in the Australian bush, right down to the living area suspended over a dry creek bed.

The four-bedroom, twobathroom house at 39 Ware Street, Bannockburn, has just hit the market ahead of a June 5 auction.

Maxwell Collins Geelong agent Eugene Carroll has $1.04m-$1.08m price hopes for the 3306sq m property.

An in-ground swimming pool, new outdoor entertainment area, updated kitchen and renovated ensuite bathroom are among recent additions that add to the lifestyle appeal.

Mr Carroll said the mud brick and timber design was incredible, as was the beautiful garden setting just five minutes’ walk from Bannockburn’s town centre.

“I first saw it seven years ago and I was blown away,” Mr Carroll said.

“I thought it was one of those amazing properties and since then when I went back it has gone up another level.

“The trees have all grown and you could be in the middle of anywhere, but you can walk to town.”

Lewis fell in the love with the house, designed by architect Gary Frencham, when they bought it seven years ago.

“It was quirky and with the different levels it just struck us,” Mr Lewis said. “We had bought some land at Inverleigh and this one came up and the potential was there.”

He said a reserve wrapped around three sides of the property, creating a private oasis in the shadow of the three feature gum trees.

“It’s amazing. I have had

people deliver things here and they all say, ‘What a great place’,” he said.

The loungeroom, with its curved timber ceiling and expansive garden views, is his favourite room in the house, which also includes a second living area, a dining room and modern kitchen with polished concrete floors.

All four bedrooms, including the main with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, are on the entry level, while the mezzanine loft is ideal for a home office or studio.
