Housework a handy quick-fix for Dino’s hip injury

- TOBY PRIME

NEWCOMB & District captain-coach Andrew Webb is “very lucky” to have avoided a stint on the sidelines after suffering a “nasty” hip injury on Saturday.

Webb was trying to complete a run-out against St Albans Breakwater when he slipped on the wicket.

But an innocuous job around the house seems to have provided a remedy. The Dinos’ allrounder was hobbled in the field and was left to swing for the boundary in his quickfire 32, but he said he expected to recover for this weekend’s game against Waurn Ponds-Deakin.

Webb said he was “counting my blessings” he did not do any further damage.

“My left leg just kind of slipped out and I did the splits and went over my hip,” he said.

“It was just a bit weird – it was like a hyperextension of my hip outwards.

“It was pretty uncomfortable and, from all reports, the people who saw it thought it looked pretty bad and looked pretty nasty.

“I did originally think I’d done some pretty bad damage.

“It was pretty sore and I was pretty worried about it.

“The only way I can explain it is when you hyperextend your knee, it was like that but on my hip – my hip’s gone inward to my right as my body’s gone over my left. It was just weird.”

Webb went to hospital for treatment but said his hip “clicked” into place while unloading the dishwasher.

“I went down and came back up and it just clicked,” he said. “It was like an instant relief type of thing on my hip.”

But the soon-to-be father said he would miss some games when his fiancee gave birth to the couple’s first child.

Webb said the arrival “could come at any stage”.

“When the baby’s born ... I’ll be taking a few weeks off to help around the house,” he said. “She’ll be pretty limited with her mobility.

“I’ve already discussed that with the club and they knew when I signed on that that would be the case.”
